Achievement examples by role
A strong achievement says what the situation was, what you did, what changed and how someone could check it. These before-and-after examples show the difference across six common roles.
These are illustrations written to show structure, not quotes from real people. See our editorial policy.
Software engineer
Before: Worked on performance improvements.
After: Checkout pages were timing out at peak (Context). I profiled the slowest queries and added caching (Action). Peak timeouts stopped over the following month (Impact). Visible in the monitoring dashboard and the incident log (Proof).
Marketing
Before: Ran social media.
After: Our channels had no posting plan (Context). I built a weekly calendar and wrote the first quarter of posts (Action). Enquiries from social grew from occasional to weekly (Impact). Tracked in the CRM source field (Proof).
Operations
Before: Helped with the warehouse move.
After: The warehouse move risked a week of missed orders (Context). I planned the stock transfer in three waves (Action). Orders kept shipping throughout (Impact). The daily dispatch report covers the whole period (Proof).
Sales
Before: Hit my targets.
After: A key account was up for renewal with a competitor bidding (Context). I rebuilt the proposal around their new priorities (Action). They renewed on a longer contract (Impact). Signed contract is in the CRM (Proof).
People manager
Before: Managed the team well.
After: Two people had resigned in a quarter (Context). I introduced monthly one-to-ones and clear progression goals (Action). No further resignations in the next nine months (Impact). Recorded in HR data and team survey comments (Proof).
Customer support
Before: Answered lots of tickets.
After: The same billing question made up a large share of tickets (Context). I wrote a help article and a saved reply (Action). That question type fell noticeably the next month (Impact). Ticket tags in the help desk show the change (Proof).
